Schismatoglottis nicolsonii A. Hay, Telopea 9: 95 (2000) was recently named for Dan Nicolson, collector of the type specimen and “mentor of contemporary Malesian arologists.” The type was collected at Bako National Park in Sarawak in August, 1961 while Nicolson was doing field work on the genus Aglaonema for his doctoral thesis. The species is one of numerous herbaceous aroids growing in deep shade, often with variegated leaves.
